Speech and Drama

Speech and Drama is a curriculum based subject, taught in private lessons or small groups (up to four students.) Students will study towards an exam, in either the AMEB (Australian Music Examination Board) or Trinity College London syllabus. Cara Phillips will co-ordinate these lessons, and teach some of them, along with other qualified Speech and Drama teachers.  Cara has been a Speech and Drama teacher for 14 years, working primarily at St. Hilda’s Anglican School for Girls.

Speech and Drama as a subject focusses on teaching speech and public speaking skills through the use of literature and drama. This makes it a useful subject for anyone wanting to have more confidence in speaking in public. However over the years Cara has also used it as a way to teach intensive acting technique, and some of her students have gone on to appear in numerous professional shows. Classes can be tailored to the students to some extent, whether students come because they want to act, or whether they plan a career in law and want confidence speaking, or whether they need some help with shyness or speech problems.
